What are the Technologies that Make the Lexus UX More Efficient?

The Lexus UX is one of the most fuel-efficient subcompact crossovers on the market due to its standard hybrid powertrain and its drive modes.

The hybrid engine

The Lexus UX comes standard with a hybrid powertrain that helps it achieve very low fuel consumption figures and a refined driving experience. The addition of an electric motor to the gasoline engine allows for a more efficient powertrain by making it possible to drive without using fuel. Indeed, at low speeds, the UX can be driven using exclusively the electric motor. This means that in city driving or in traffic, the gasoline engine can be turned off for extended periods, which limits the quantity of fuel used and the polluting emissions. In order to maximise efficiency even further, the UX is equipped with a regenerative braking system that uses the electric motor to slow down the vehicle and charge its battery, which results in less fuel burned and a longer useful life for the braking system components.

The drive mode selector

The Lexus UX is equipped with a drive mode selection system which allows you to choose between 4 available modes, two of which are geared towards obtaining the best efficiency possible. The Eco mode prioritises the electric motor in order to move the car, as well as toning down the response from the accelerator pedal. This makes it easier to drive in a more ecofriendly way by avoiding harsh accelerations. In addition, Eco mode reduces the output of the air conditioning system in order to conserve energy and attribute it to the drivetrain. The other mode that favors efficiency is the EV mode. This mode, which is available when the battery is sufficiently charged, allows the UX to be driven as an electric car, which makes it ideal for use in  a parking lot or in busy traffic.
