This is the all-new 2023 Lexus RX

Lexus has just unveiled the latest generation of its popular Lexus RX and aside from a stunning new design, the Lexus RX shines with an impressive lineup of more efficient and more powerful powertrains, more interior space and versatility, and enhanced features and technology. Let's take a closer look at what sets the all-new 2023 Lexus RX apart from its competitors.

A wide range of new powertrains

As expected, the changes underneath the hood of the 2023 Lexus RX are significant. The new Lexus RX SUV will feature three new hybrid engines as well as a new turbocharged four-cylinder powertrain.

Replacing the previous 3.5 L V-6 engine is a new 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo in the new Lexus RX 350. Developing 275 hp along with 317 pound-feet of torque, this new powertrain won’t just deliver the same level of performance as the outgoing V-6, but it will be significantly more fuel-efficient with an average fuel consumption rating of just 9.8 L per 100 km. Speaking of fuel economy, the next three powertrains in the Lexus RX lineup are all hybrids. This isn't surprising when we that the Lexus RX was the pioneer of hybrid luxury SUVs.

The 2023 Lexus RX 350h will feature a new hybrid engine that pairs a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with an electric motor in the front and a smaller electric motor in the back. Total horsepower is 246 while torque reaches a stout 233 pound-feet. This is less than the outgoing RX 450h which had 308 hp, but Lexus says the new hybrid RX will reach 100 km/h 7.6 seconds and average around 7 L per 100 km. In other words, the performance level and the efficiency will be roughly the same.

The major addition to the 2023 Lexus RX lineup of engines can be found in the new RX 500h. This will be one of the most powerful Lexus hybrid vehicles ever built. It pairs the 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo engine in the entry-level Lexus RX with an electric motor and a six-speed automatic. Power reaches 367 hp while torque is an impressive 406 pound-feet. The new Lexus RX 500h will reach 100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds while averaging around 9 L per 100 km.

Last but not least, Lexus says we can also expect a plug-in hybrid powertrain down the road which should offer over 60 km of all electric range.

The 2023 Lexus RX features a larger interior thanks to a longer wheelbase and of course, the interior and exterior designs have been completely redesigned. The Lexus RX gets a sportier stance that is wider and shorter than the outgoing model. Versatility is preserved and enhanced as well. Interior also gets more technology and features with a new 14-inch centre display housing the latest Lexus infotainment system with advanced voice commands and cloud-based navigation. Safety has also been considerably improved in the 2023 Lexus RX.

Built on a new GA-K platform, the 2023 Lexus RX will benefit from a lower centre of gravity as well as optimal weight distribution to make this RX the most dynamic and agile RX ever. It is also lighter by about 90 kg.
